Armor detection strategies exist because Tarkov ammo is a budget. Class 5 and class 6 plates eat cheap rounds. If you dump a mag of PS into a Thorax that will not pen, you lose the trade and the kit. See the class before you shoot.
Why class beats a lucky spray
Escape from Tarkov armor is classed. Low classes fold to common ammo. High classes need penetration you paid for. Overlay class (and sometimes plate durability) tells you whether this mag is a plan or a donation.
Killa and kitted PMCs often sit in class 5–6 with a face shield. If your round will not pen the thorax, legs and unarmored zones still exist. That is a strategy call, not a guess, once the overlay shows the class.
How to shoot what you see
Pen the plate if the overlay says your ammo can. Swap to a better round if you packed two mags. Go legs if you cannot pen and they are close. Break and leave if they are class 6 and you are on scav ammo.
With health ESP
Class says if the round lands. Health ESP says if they already ate damage through that plate. A cracked class 5 thorax is a different fight than a fresh one. Pair both with ESP so you know who you are even measuring.
Do not waste AP on scavs
Most scavs are not wearing raid plates. Save M995 and m61 for the PMC the overlay marked as class 5. That is how armor ESP pays for itself in one Interchange fight.
Ammo tables still rule. The overlay does not buff penetration. It only labels the target. Escape from Tarkov cheats includes armor ESP with health, skeleton, and aim tools. Confirm the build on Status after BattlEye updates.

What does armor detection show?
Usually armor class on the thorax or helmet, sometimes remaining durability. You use it to pick ammo and aim zone before the spray starts.
Do I still need good ammo if I have armor ESP?
Yes. Class 5–6 still needs penetration. The overlay only tells you which mag to seat. It does not change Battlestate ballistics.
Should I shoot legs against heavy armor?
If your ammo will not pen thorax and you are close, legs are a real option. If you packed AP, shoot the plate. The overlay is how you know which sentence is true.
Does armor ESP show helmet class too?
When the product exposes it. A face shield changes whether a head bone lock is smart. Check Features for what the live overlay lists.
Is armor ESP useful on Factory?
Yes. Fights are short. You do not have time to “test” a mag. Read class, pick zone, shoot.
